What is gold Implantation?
Pain-free joints thanks to gentle treatment method
As one of the first human physicians worldwide, the Danish physician Dr. Hans Kjerkegaard took over the gold implantation for the treatment of painful joints from veterinary medicine in 1996 and has successfully used it over 9000 times in human medicine since then. This tried and tested method of fighting pain is a part of alternative medicine and can be used to treat all joint diseases. This treatment is still not recognized by traditional medicine. However, there has been a change in recent years, supported by double-blind and pilot studies that confirm the effectiveness of gold therapy
Gold therapy works through the targeted use of 24-carat gold implants directly on the affected joint. Compared to joint replacement surgery or other methods such as drug therapy for osteoarthritis, it is e very gentle on the body. Our practice has many years of experience in this field and is one of only a few offering gold implantation in Germany and worldwide. In addition to her comprehensive experience in pain management, Dr. Melanie Endrizzi is a surgeon with extensive expertise in the professional use of gold implant.
Gold as an effective aid in pain therapy
Gold is one of the oldest medical aids, also known as "Aurummetallicum", translated "metal of light". Its effects can be seen in modern medicine, for example in the treatment of rheumatic diseases. An in vivo basic study conducted by the University of Aarhus in 2008 suggests that gold prevents an inflammation-promoting protein from escaping from immune cells. Exact results on the effects of gold implantation are not yet available. Practical experience has shown success in the treatment of inflammatory joint processes and arthrosis complaints, so that it is only a question of time for scientific evidence to become available.
How to treat a gold implantation
After local anaesthesia, approx. 1 - 2 mm long segments of 24 carat gold wire are inserted through a hollow needle around the affected joint. The pieces are located on the outside of the joint capsule, not in the joint itself. They remain there permanently and do not migrate. The number of segments varies, depending on the joint, between 2 and 50 pieces. Since it is not a conventional joint surgery, post-surgery or antibiotic therapies are not part of the therapy concept of gold implantation. There are no known allergies to pure gold. After the intervention, the puncture sites are covered with plaster and the patient can leave the practice immediately.
What you can expect after the procedure
You can leave the practice immediately after the gold implants have been inserted and use the treated joint normally. The only limitation is driving immediately after the procedure. Dizziness can occur as a result of the local anaesthesia, therefore you will need someone to accompany you home after the treatment. You can engage the affected joint as normal with no particular need to be particularly gentle on the joint. After the local anaesthesia has worn off, temporary pain or bruising may occur in the puncture area. In this case, short term use of pain killers are recommended.
Cost of a gold therapy
While private health insurance companies sometimes contribute to the cost after submitting the invoice, the statutory health insurance funds do not cover the treatment cost of gold therapy since scientific studies are lacking. Please give us a call if you would like specific information on price. Each treatment takes between 60 and 90 minutes and you will immediately receive a detailed invoice according to GOÄ. We accept payments with Euro-Card/Maestro, but unfortunately cannot accept credit cards
