Yesterday, Elisabeth (63) finally made a decision: she wants to have her back, which has been aching for years, treated with the alternative therapy \u201egold implantation\u201c. After many examinations and visits to specialists, she sees the treatment as an opportunity for considerable pain relief. It's time to tell her best friend Gabi the news:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201eHello Gabi, surprise .... I'll be \u201egold plating<\/strong>\u201c, she tells her friend on the phone. \u201eWell, you've finally plucked up the courage to get those gold implants along your spine? I think that's brilliant. It's worth a try. It's just awful watching you dragging yourself through life bent double with a bad back for years!\u201c says Gabi. \u201eYes, I'm really looking forward to it and I'm fully informed about everything. The procedure is happening the day after tomorrow!\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General anaesthetic or local anaesthetic?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201eTell me, will that hurt? Or will you have a general anaesthetic?<\/strong>\u201c \u201eNo, this is done with local anaesthetic at individual points on the vertebrae. The pain points are anaesthetised. I guess I won't feel anything and will just lie around during the implantation. The doctors call this minimally invasive.<\/em> Sounds good, doesn't it? It'll be quick too. It won't take longer than three quarters of an hour, says the doctor.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201eSounds pretty good. Are you going by car or should I go with you?<\/strong>?\u201c asks Gabi. \u201eWell, that would be great if you could drive me back. Some patients are a bit dizzy afterwards. So driving yourself isn't the best idea.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the treatment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201eAll right. Then I'll drive you. Do you have to take medication after the treatment or do you need rehab?\u201c<\/strong>, Gabi asks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201eNo, no and no,\u201c laughs Gabi, \u201enone of that. I take it easy for a day, the shower tap stays closed, the bath is shut and I don't even go jogging and the painkillers stay in their packet. I just have to remove the plasters after a day.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201eWell, you haven't lost your sense of humour! You and jogging ... maybe I'll live to see it!\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does the doctor think about the Pain afterwards <\/strong>looks like?\u201c asks Gabi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201eThere is no binding time frame. But there are now so many \u201egold-plated\u201c patients that 80 per cent have a clear improvement or even freedom from pain after three months. Some after just a few days. Many are clearly free of pain for several years, others for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elisabeth doesn't beep<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201eSay, if you want to get on the plane, Will the security officer's beeper beep because of the metal in the back?<\/strong>\u201c Elisabeth laughs: \u201eI can't believe you're asking that question of all things! You won't believe it, I have the answer! Because that's exactly what I asked! The answer: It won't beep for me. I will have fine gold along the spine, and that is not magnetic. In addition, the 24-carat gold without gold salts ensures that there are no side effects. An allergic reaction is probably ruled out and I won't feel the 2 millimetre particles either.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n
